Deciding Where To Go And Where To zzZZzz
Cars are really scary. I never realized how scary and dangerous they are until I started riding a bike long distances where bigger roads are difficult to avoid. Despite lights, reflectors, neon this and that, i've been driven off roads and have been nearly hit on many occasions. As a result, my routes are focused on avoiding cars by staying on trails and if I take roads, I go out of my way to stay on small ones preferably with wide shoulders. This often means my routes are indirect and sometimes inconvenient but to me, it is worth it. If you look at my tentative route, you'll notice I'm zigzagging in order to connect various trails. This is intentional. Another advantage to staying on trails is that there are usually campgrounds nearby, which is where I will be zzZZzzing most nights. Golden campgrounds are ones with free showers/flush toilets, outlets, laundry facilities and mostly tents. These are not the norm but when you find them, it is a treat. New to this trip, I've joined WarmShowers, which is a community of bikers that host other Bikers, usually in the form of a place to pitch a tent with access to a bathroom. On occasion, I'll also be staying in BnBs and motels because sometimes a shower is necessary.
